A little clarity,
before we begin.
Starting therapy often comes with practical questions about fit, cost, insurance, what sessions are like, and whether this kind of therapy is right for you.
Below are some of the questions I hear most often.

Getting Started
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. I offer a complimentary consultation lasting 15 minutes so we can talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re looking for, and whether we both feel we may be a good fit.
You’ll also have time to ask questions about therapy, scheduling, fees, insurance, or anything else you’d like to know before getting started.
Therapy can be a little like dating: sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to get a clearer sense of fit. The consultation is a starting point, and we can continue checking in about how the work feels as we get to know each other.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults navigating concerns including:
- Substance use and recovery
- Sustained recovery
- Anxiety and chronic overthinking
- Trauma and difficult past experiences
- Perfectionism and a tendency to please others
- Relationship patterns
- Emotional regulation
- Identity, sense of worth, and life transitions
A significant part of my work focuses on adults who have made changes in their relationship with substances and are beginning to explore what comes next, including relationships, anxiety, identity, emotional patterns, and building a meaningful life beyond sobriety.
Do I need to be sober to work with you?
Not necessarily.
I work with adults who are questioning their relationship with alcohol or substances, as well as those in early and sustained recovery.
During our consultation, we’ll talk about your current substance use, the type of support you’re looking for, and whether outpatient individual therapy is the appropriate level of care.
If your current needs would be better supported by detoxification, residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, or another higher level of care, I will be transparent about that and can help point you toward appropriate resources.
Is therapy with you only for addiction and recovery?
No.
While substance use and recovery are important areas of specialization in my practice, I also work with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, a tendency to please others, emotional overwhelm, and recurring patterns that feel difficult to change.
These concerns often overlap, which is why I take an integrative approach to the whole person rather than focusing on one symptom in isolation.
Therapy at Noema
What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is integrative, psychodynamic, and somatic, with a foundation in mindfulness and an understanding of trauma.
This means we may explore the deeper roots of recurring patterns while also paying attention to what is happening in your body, emotions, relationships, and nervous system in the present.
Depending on what you need, sessions may include work that develops insight, somatic awareness, mindfulness, emotional regulation, practical coping strategies, and experiential interventions.
At Noema, we do more than just talk.
What happens in the first session?
The first session gives us more time to understand you and what has brought you to therapy.
We may talk about your current concerns, important relationships, past experiences, mental health history, substance use or recovery history when relevant, patterns you have noticed, and what you hope will feel different as a result of therapy.
You do not need to arrive with everything figured out.
Together, we’ll begin identifying what you want to work toward and what approach may be most helpful.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly therapy.
Weekly sessions provide consistency, allow us to build momentum, and give us enough space to understand patterns more deeply.
Over time, the frequency of sessions may change depending on your needs, progress, and treatment goals.
How long are sessions?
Individual psychotherapy sessions are typically 50 minutes.
How long will I be in therapy?
There is no predetermined timeline.
Some clients come to therapy to work through a specific issue, while others benefit from ongoing work focused on deeper emotional, relational, or behavioral patterns.
We will continue to talk openly about your goals, how therapy is feeling, and whether the work continues to be helpful.
What if I’m not sure we’re a good fit?
The complimentary consultation lasting 15 minutes is a chance to share what brings you to therapy, hear more about how I work, and discuss whether we both feel like a good fit.
Therapy can be a little like dating. Sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to get a clearer sense of whether the relationship feels right for you. You’re welcome to bring up questions or concerns, and we’ll continue talking openly about how therapy is feeling.
If it becomes clear that another therapist or level of care would better meet your needs, I will be transparent about that.
Insurance & Reimbursement
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I am part of the Aetna network for a limited number of individual therapy clients.
For clients with other insurance plans, Noema Integrative Wellness is a practice outside those networks.
If your insurance plan includes mental health benefits for care outside your network, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for a portion of your therapy costs.
Why are there a limited number of Aetna spots?
I maintain a limited number of spaces for clients using the Aetna network so that I can continue offering access through insurance while maintaining a sustainable caseload and providing individualized care.
Availability for Aetna clients may vary.
What will I pay if I use Aetna?
If you are using benefits within the Aetna network, your cost will depend on your individual insurance plan.
Depending on your coverage, you may have a deductible, copay, coinsurance, or another form of shared costs.
Your benefits should be verified before beginning treatment.
What are benefits for care outside your network?
Some insurance plans allow you to see a therapist who is outside your network and then reimburse you for a portion of the session cost.
Your reimbursement depends on your individual plan, including factors such as your deductible, coinsurance, and your insurance company’s allowable rate.
Not every plan includes benefits for care outside your network.
Can I check my benefits for care outside your network before scheduling?
Yes. You can use the benefits checker on this page to see whether your plan may include mental health coverage for care outside your network and receive an estimate of your potential reimbursement.
You can also contact your insurer to ask about your mental health benefits for care outside your network. Your insurance company ultimately determines coverage and reimbursement.
Do you provide superbills?
Yes.
Clients paying privately who plan to use benefits for care outside your network can receive the appropriate documentation to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Coverage and reimbursement are determined by your individual insurance plan.
Can I use an HSA or FSA?
Eligible HSA and FSA funds can generally be used toward psychotherapy expenses.
You should confirm eligibility with your individual plan if you have questions about your benefits.
Logistics
Are sessions virtual or in person?
At this time, Noema Integrative Wellness is a fully virtual practice.
I provide secure telehealth therapy to adults located throughout New York State.
You must be physically located in New York at the time of your session.
What if I need more support than weekly outpatient therapy?
Noema Integrative Wellness is an outpatient psychotherapy practice and does not provide emergency services, detoxification, or intensive substance use treatment.
If you are experiencing severe withdrawal, an immediate safety concern, or need a higher level of care such as detoxification, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, or intensive outpatient treatment, another level of care may be more appropriate.
When appropriate, we can discuss resources or referrals.
