What is anxiety therapy?

Anxiety therapy can help you understand the patterns contributing to anxiety, build greater capacity to tolerate uncertainty and difficult emotions, and begin responding differently when anxiety shows up.

No two stories or bodies are the same. Our work focuses on understanding your experience and helping you feel more grounded, flexible, and able to make choices that are not driven entirely by fear.

What can we work on in anxiety therapy?

01 Overthinking & chronic worry

You may rehearse conversations, imagine the worst possible outcomes, research endlessly, or search for certainty before allowing yourself to move forward.

Therapy can help you notice these cycles earlier and develop a greater ability to tolerate not knowing everything in advance.

02 Perfectionism & pressure

Perfectionism can look productive from the outside.

Internally, it may involve fear of failure, harsh criticism of yourself, procrastination, difficulty resting, or the feeling that what you do is never quite enough.

We can explore where those expectations came from and what it might look like to pursue meaningful goals without your sense of worth depending on flawless performance.

03 Pleasing others & boundaries

You may be highly attuned to what other people need while having a harder time identifying what you need.

Anxiety can make setting boundaries feel risky, particularly if you fear conflict, disappointing someone, or being perceived negatively.

Therapy can help you become more aware of your own needs and practice relating to others without abandoning yourself in the process.

04 Emotional & physical anxiety

You might notice tension, restlessness, difficulty settling, changes in breathing, or the feeling that your body is preparing for something even when your mind knows you are safe.

We can become more curious about these sensations and build greater awareness of how your body responds to stress.

05 Control, uncertainty & reassurance

You may plan excessively, check things repeatedly, seek reassurance, or avoid situations where the outcome cannot be controlled.

We can work on building confidence in your ability to handle uncertainty without needing to control every outcome.

06 Relationships & recurring patterns

You may worry about whether someone is upset with you, analyze changes in communication, fear rejection, struggle to express your needs, or find yourself repeatedly falling into familiar relationship dynamics.

Therapy can help you understand those patterns and begin experimenting with different ways of relating.

Do I need an anxiety diagnosis to start therapy?

No. You do not need a formal anxiety disorder diagnosis to begin therapy at Noema.

You may simply know that worry, overthinking, perfectionism, stress, or difficulty relaxing is interfering with how you want to live.

We can focus on what you are experiencing and what you would like to change rather than requiring you to fit neatly into a diagnosis.

Can anxiety show up in the body?

Yes. Anxiety can involve both psychological and physical experiences.

You may know you are safe while your body still feels tense or unable to settle. Somatic therapy for anxiety brings attention to these sensations and stress responses, helping you understand what is happening internally and develop more options for responding without forcing yourself to calm down.

What does a holistic approach to anxiety that connects mind and body look like?

Holistic anxiety therapy explores how your emotions, body, relationships, and daily routines shape your experience of stress and anxiety.

My approach is holistic, integrative, psychodynamic, somatic, rooted in mindfulness, and informed by an understanding of trauma. Together, we explore the roots of anxiety and how it shows up in your life today.

What happens between sessions matters too. We may look at what helps you feel grounded, what leaves you depleted or overstimulated, and how your daily rhythms affect your capacity to cope.

01 Sleep & restoration

We may look at your sleep patterns, evening routines, difficulty slowing down, and whether you have enough opportunities for genuine rest and restoration.

The goal is not to create a perfect sleep routine, but to understand how rest fits into the larger picture of your emotional wellbeing.

02 Meditation & mindfulness

Mindfulness is not about making your mind completely quiet.

It can help you notice thoughts, sensations, and emotions without immediately reacting to them.

When helpful, our work may incorporate mindfulness or meditation practices that fit your personality and daily life.

03 Movement & yoga

Anxiety can sometimes leave you feeling tense, restless, disconnected, or uncomfortable in your body.

Movement, stretching, yoga, or other forms of intentional body awareness may offer another way to reconnect with yourself.

There is no expectation that you practice yoga or follow a particular routine. We are simply becoming curious about what helps your body feel supported.

04 Your everyday nervous system load

Sometimes it is not one major stressor.

It is the accumulation of dozens of small demands throughout the day.

We may look at how much stimulation you are carrying, how quickly you move between responsibilities, where you have opportunities to pause, and what situations tend to leave you feeling more activated or more settled.

The goal is not to turn your life into another wellness checklist.

It is to understand what your mind and body are responding to and identify realistic ways of supporting yourself.

Can creative approaches be part of anxiety therapy?

Yes. When it feels helpful, therapy can include creative and experiential approaches informed by my background in art therapy.

Sometimes it can be difficult to put an experience into words, especially if you are someone who spends a lot of time analyzing or intellectualizing what you feel.

Creative exercises may offer another way to slow down, notice what is happening internally, and explore emotions or patterns from a different perspective.

You do not need to consider yourself artistic, and there is never pressure to use creative interventions.

What if I already understand why I’m anxious?

Insight can be incredibly valuable, but understanding a pattern does not always mean the pattern automatically changes.

You may know where your perfectionism or a tendency to please others began, yet find yourself following the same familiar path when a difficult moment arrives.

Understanding is one part of the work. Experiencing something different is another.

At Noema, we do more than just talk. We can practice different ways of responding when those patterns show up in real time.

You do not have to organize your entire life around anxiety.

Anxiety may have taught you to anticipate, prepare, control, achieve, or take care of everyone around you.

Some of those strategies may have even helped you succeed.

The question is whether they are still serving you or whether they have started costing you more than they give you.

Therapy can create space to understand those patterns without judging them and begin exploring what life might feel like with more flexibility, more trust in yourself, and less pressure to get everything exactly right.
